How country codes reveal where a number is from

Every international number opens with a country calling code: +1 for the US and Canada, +44 for the UK, +91 for India, and so on. The identifier reads that opening code, matches it to the country, and formats the rest of the number to that country's rules.

Why some codes are shared

A handful of codes cover more than one country. +1 is shared by the US, Canada, and much of the Caribbean, and +7 covers Russia and Kazakhstan. When that happens, the tool uses the rest of the number to narrow it down.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find out what country a phone number is from?
Paste the whole number, including the part after the +. The country shows up right away.
Do I need the + sign?
Including the country code (the digits after the +) gives you the most accurate answer. If you don't have it, pick a country first.
Which countries are supported?
Every one. All 200+ international dialing codes are recognized.
Can two countries share the same code?
Yes. +1 and +7 are shared by several countries, among others. The tool figures out the exact one from the rest of the number.
Is it free?
Completely, and there's no sign-up. It works the moment you paste a number.
